Plastics Capital set to beat year-end expectations

Plastics Capital, the niche plastics products group, has announced that it expects performance for the full year to be ahead of market expectations. Trading conditions since 30 September 2010 have continued to improve, with volumes increasing significantly relative to the same period last year, it said.

New business activity has continued to progress well with the following significant developments:

• The company’s Indian sales subsidiary, based in Mumbai, has won its first orders for creasing matrix from local Indian customers. Prospects for plastic ball bearings in India are also excellent.

• Seven key accounts (each with expected annual sales exceeding £100,000) have been won since 30 September 2010. This is in line with our targeted strike rate. The full benefit of these account wins will be felt in the next financial year.

• New project wins in its plastic ball bearings business have gathered pace significantly in the second half year with the pipeline for new projects continuing to strengthen.

Raw material inflation continues to be a feature in some parts of Plastics Capital’s business but has been managed effectively, it claims. Margins meanwhile remain satisfactory and cash flow remains strong with debt reducing in line with our expectations.

Faisal Rahmatallah, executive chairman, said: “There are excellent opportunities for growth in the markets we serve. The steps we have taken to increase business development activity are driving revenues and profits forward healthily. We will continue to add sales resources and production capacity as appropriate to deliver the revenue increases that we believe are achievable over the medium term.”

Band Saw 0.3.0

Band Saw is a syslog monitoring program for the GNOME desktop. Band Saw project allows the user to setup filters that define which messages should generate alerts.
Combined with syslog’s remote logging functionality it provides a scalable and easily deployed monitoring solution.
How does it work?
Band Saw is really quite simple; it monitors messages that are fed to it from a suitably configured syslog server, looking out for messages that contain text that the administrator is interested in. Any log message that matches the administrator’s filters will be brought to the user’s attention via a dialog box that pops up on screen.
Because syslog itself supports propagating messages between seperate computers, with syslog and Band Saw you can easily monitor a large number of computers for critical errors.

Специальные требования Band Saw
    · GTK+ version 2.8.x
    · Python 2.3
    · PyGTK 2.8.0 (2.4.0 may work, I’ve not tested it).
    · You will also need GnomePythonExtras (any version that supports the notification tray icons should suffice).
История версий и изменений Band Saw

Gravity Die Casting

With sand casting the mold is broken up after each casting operation, but with the process known as gravity die casting, the mold also called a ‘die’ is manufactured from metal, and can be used a large number of times. This means that the die is much more expensive to make, than an expendable ‘one use only’ mold. An intermediate technique makes use of semipermanent molds, which are made of gypsum plaster or fireclay, which can be used repeatedly for a limited number of castings. With gravity die casting, the most widely used materials for die-making are cast iron, steel, and heat resisting alloys of iron. For some specific purposes other materials are used to manufacture the dies, and these can include, aluminum. copper or graphite. A metal die can produce smooth castings with a clean surface, and a very high dimensional accuracy. These castings require very little or no final machining or other finishing treatment. The service life of metal dies can vary in terms of the number of castings it can produce, and this depends on certain factors such as the casting material, the thermal metal shock resistance of the die material, the temperature at which it is poured, and the casting method employed.

Many different details need to be taken into consideration when designing the pattern from which the die is made. For instance the pouring-gate system and risers need to be considered so that the walls of mold allow a quenching action upon the molten metal so it van solidify more rapidly than in sand casting. Also the die must be provided with channels at the joints and air vent holes to allow air from the hot metal to escape from the interior of the die. The die must also be constructed so it will not restrict the shrinkage that occurs, when the metal cools. Shrinkage can present difficulties when designing the cores which form the casting. Usually the cores are made from steel or special alloys, and sometimes compressible sand or shell cores are used.

To prevent the casting metal from sticking to the die, the die can be given an internal coating of chalk, clay, or bone ash with water glass as a binder. This mixture can be applied to the die by spraying, brushing or immersion.

With simple castings the molten metal may be poured in at the top. It should be designed to allow the molten metal to flow quickly without turbulence into all parts of the die. For metals with low melting points the die is sometimes heated to prevent premature solidification, and for metals with a high melting point, the die may have to be artificially cooled after each casting operation.

Slowly moving or tilting the die while casting can reduce turbulence and enable the metal to flow more smoothly, particularly when heavy castings are being produced. For awkwardly shaped castings, a vacuum may be applied to help the filling of the die. Slush casting, is a technique used for producing ornamental or hollow castings: the molten metal is poured into the die, and when a solid shell of sufficient thickness has formed, the remaining liquid is poured out.

Although die castings are cheaper than sand castings, the die tooling is more expensive, and an optimum number of castings need to be produced to make the process cost effective.

High Pressure Die Casting

High pressure die casting enables economical quantity production of castings at a rapid rate. These castings can comprise of various holes, screw threads, recesses, and are characterized by a high dimensional accuracy and good surface finish. They enable good economy of metal and require little or no surface finishing. The principal on which pressure die casting is based, consists of forcing molten metal into a mold or the die, under considerable pressure. The machines which are used for this purpose operate on one or two systems:

Hot Chamber Machines (for metals with a low melting point)
Cold Chamber Machines (for metals with a high melting point)
In the hot chamber machines the metal is kept liquid in a crucible inside the machine, and the pressure chamber that delivers the metal into the die is located in the metal bath. This machinery can be pneumatically operated, or more usually develop the pressure by the action of a ram. The casting metal for a cold chamber machine, is kept liquid in a holding furnace, from which it is transferred to the pressure chamber, by means of a scoop or a special automatic device and is forced into the die by the means of a ram. Some simple machines are hand operated, but fully automatic machines are more commonly employed for high rates of production.

In pressure die casting, precision made dies of intricate multipart design and therefore very expensive are used, and exposed to severe working conditions, by high pressures and high successive variations in temperature. For the production of zinc and zinc alloy castings the dies may be made of unalloyed steel, however for magnesium, aluminum, copper and the alloys of these metals, the dies are generally made of hot-work steel, which has much greater durability.

Another development in high pressure die casting is vacuum die casting. It produces castings which have an even better finish than ordinary high pressure castings. There are two systems, the die is either enclosed in a hood which evacuates the air, or the holding furnace is installed under the casting machine, so that on the evacuation of the air from the die, the metal is sucked into the die and is compacted in it, and a process for making iron castings based on this principle has been developed.

Usage and Features of Water Pumps

A pump is a machine or device that can be used for raising, compressing, or transferring fluids. There are various types of pumps such as gear pumps, peristaltic pumps, gravity pumps, and impulse pumps, etc. All of them are quite useful in industries. But in our daily life, there is a very commonly used category of pump which is called water pump.

Water pump is an important tool for a variety of residential, light commercial or agricultural tasks. Especially in the rural areas, it can play a very important role. Water pump can drain water from a basement or even from shallow flooded areas. It can also drain and fill the swimming pool and pond. Besides, it can be applied to meet irrigation requirements for agriculture. It can also be used in the construction. All in all, it has various usages.

There are also many types of water pumps, and each of them can serve a special purpose in a home or business. Although most of water pumps have similar performances and functions, you should still have to consider different aspects to choose the appropriate products for your own. For example, if you want to drain your hot tub or garden pond, you can choose transfer pumps which are made for clear water pumping and should be free of debris. In addition, they can also be used to drain shallow flooded areas and for lawn sprinkling. But if you want to buy a suitable pump for agricultural usage, you should choose high-pressure pumps which are designed to provide higher pressure at lower volumes because they can move water over long distances.

Additionally, you should take many other features into consideration when you purchase the water pump. The good and suitable pump products can enable you to get easy starts, more effective cleaning, and longer life. For heavy-duty water transfer or cleanup projects, you can look for engines with an OHV design which delivers a cooler, cleaner and more fuel-efficient engine. Ceramic mechanical seals can provide long-life performance. And lightweight aluminum castings make it easy to move the pump around.

According to the above content, we can clearly see that water pumps have much positive impact on agriculture as well as on people’s daily life. Therefore, it is rather necessary to take many aspects into consideration when you go to buy them because the appropriate products can provide you with much benefit.

Voting booths calibrated, but voters should be careful casting ballots

YORK, SC (WBTV) - The York County board of elections is expecting a 30 to 40 percent turnout at the polls Tuesday, that’s a lot of people touching electronic voting screens.Aluminum Die CastingZinc Die Casting ,

“We’re not on pace for 2008 but we are going be higher than our turn out in 2006,” said Patrick Lee with the York County Board of Elections.

The Board of elections says their 500 voting booths are ready.

After the issue with voting booth calibration in North Carolina, Patrick Lee with the board of elections says voters still need to be careful.

“A voter may have dragged their knuckle across the screen or may have had their palm resting at the bottom of the screen,” said Lee. “Voters need to make sure they make one point of contact.”

When you get into the voting booth make sure you don’t get punchy with your ballot. Make sure you use only one finger to press who you’re voting for, because even though these boxes have been calibrated weeks in advance, the slightest touch from another finger could mean the difference in voting Republican or Democrat.

“There are review screens to review all the selections that have been made,” said Lee.

And if you’re still not sure you voted correctly there is help for you to get your vote right.  The BOE has election day technicians on standby all day long to resolve anything that may come up.
